The following are suggestions from the Supreme Judge of the Internet Court of Law (ICL) for lawyers to excel in ICL trials.
1) Try not to introduce new evidence after the End of Discovery (ED) Deadline. It is technically allowed, however it takes time to ensure that new evidence is factual and not faked, and this can jam up court proceedings. Please submit as much evidence as you can before the ED Deadline.
2) Try to be as witty, funny, and charming as possible in your debates. Great debate skills paired with a charismatic personality and quick wit will go far to earn the hearts and minds of your judges. Just being a dry legalist will not win you much sympathy.
3) That being said, try not to derail debates too much, because this will make judges fairly unhappy with you.
4) When calling topic experts to the stand, coordinate with them beforehand to make sure they make it to trial in a timely manner. If you call a topic expert to the stand and he fails to arrive within 48 hours of you calling him, the topic expert will not be allowed to comment for the rest of the trial.
5) Keep in good contact with whoever you’re representing in case new developments come up. Personal communications between you and your client cannot be used against you, so that is the time to say whatever you need to.
Again, these are just suggestions, but if you follow these rules, court proceedings will go much smoother, and you will gain a much, MUCH better reputation with judges and clients.
